New:
The EBSA is happy to announce Athena Tsingarida’s recent book, published by the Belgian Royal Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters in its collection "L'Academie en Poche ». Entitled « L’éternelle modernité de l’art grec. Archaïsmes et avant-gardes européennes (1870 - 1914) », it studies the discovery and reception of Archaic Greek Art in the late 19th -early 20th centuries when it becomes a new source of inspiration for many artists of the European avant-garde (from Rodin to the Ballets Russes). The book sheds new light on the change that led to the shift from the Classical Greek model to the admiration of the Archaic. It focuses on the decisive role played by archaeological excavations, museum collections and the Arts and Crafts movement in shaping a new European aesthetic.
